GapEdu Day 2026 | 26 Years of Spirit. 9 Years of Identity. One Global Purpose.
Filling the Gaps — From Development Policy to Practice
3 November 2026 | GapEdu – Global Consultancy on Development Policy & Practice
Rooted in Vietnam. Growing from Finland. Connecting Globally.
Some Organisations Begin with a Business Plan. Others Begin with a Purpose.
The story of GapEdu did not begin with a company registration, an international partnership, or a business expansion strategy.
It began with a belief that development should create meaningful opportunities for people, communities, businesses, and society — and that the true value of any development policy lies in its practical implementation.
That belief took root on 1 January 2000, when Hanni Tran, Founder of GapEdu, began her professional career at a tourism authority in her hometown in Vietnam.
What started as a commitment to public service gradually evolved into a professional philosophy shaped by experience across different institutions, sectors, and markets.
Twenty-six years later, that philosophy continues to guide GapEdu – Global Consultancy on Development Policy & Practice.
As GapEdu celebrates its ninth anniversary of formal registration on 3 November 2026, we reflect on the journey that brought us here, the people who have contributed to our development, and the purpose that continues to define our future.
2000–2015 | The Foundation: Learning Development from the Ground Up
For the first fifteen years, the spirit behind GapEdu was developed through practical engagement across Vietnam’s public and private sectors.
The journey encompassed tourism administration, trade and tourism promotion, community-based economic development, tourism education and training, and media and communication.
Working across these interconnected fields offered an important perspective on how development actually happens.
Policies establish direction, but implementation depends on institutional capacity, professional knowledge, market understanding, effective communication, and cooperation among stakeholders.
Communities may possess valuable resources but lack access to markets. Businesses may recognise opportunities but require stronger capabilities or strategic connections. Governments may establish ambitious development plans but face challenges in translating them into measurable outcomes.
These experiences gradually shaped the principle that would become central to GapEdu’s identity:
Development is not only about identifying opportunities. It is about filling the gaps that prevent those opportunities from becoming reality.
2015–2017 | From Professional Philosophy to Institutional Identity
In 2015, after fifteen years of working across different sectors in Vietnam, Hanni Tran began transforming this professional philosophy into an independent consultancy initiative.
The ambition was to bring together practical experience, development knowledge, and international perspectives to support organisations seeking meaningful and sustainable growth.
On 3 November 2017, GapEdu was officially registered in Vietnam.
This milestone gave an established philosophy its formal business identity and created a platform through which its approach could be developed, structured, and shared with a wider range of partners.
Since then, 3 November has been celebrated annually as GapEdu Day.
It is a date that marks not simply the establishment of a company, but the formal recognition of a purpose developed through years of professional experience.
2020 | A Shared Vision for International Development
A defining chapter began in 2020 when Hanni Tran met Jyrki Nilson, who joined the journey as Co-Founder of GapEdu.
Bringing extensive international experience in tourism, aviation, business development, market access, and strategic partnerships, Jyrki contributed complementary expertise and a broader international business perspective.
Together, the founders strengthened GapEdu’s direction as a consultancy connecting development policy, practical implementation, market opportunities, and international partnerships.
The collaboration brought together two complementary perspectives: experience in public-sector development and community-oriented practice, alongside international commercial expertise and global market engagement.
This shared vision helped establish the foundation for GapEdu’s continued international evolution.
2025–2026 | From Vietnam to Finland: A New International Chapter
In 2025, GapEdu established its new base in Finland, marking another important stage in its institutional development.
The transition reflected the company’s expanding international orientation and its ambition to engage more closely with European and global institutions, businesses, investors, and development partners.
While its roots remain in Vietnam, GapEdu’s outlook has become increasingly international.
Today, the consultancy operates through three interconnected strategic pillars:
Tourism Development & Policy Implementation
Supporting governments, destinations, and institutions in translating development strategies into practical programmes, stronger capabilities, and sustainable outcomes.
Market Access & Growth
Helping destinations, businesses, and organisations strengthen their international positioning, access new markets, and develop sustainable commercial opportunities.
Strategic Partnerships & Investment Facilitation
Connecting public institutions, private enterprises, investors, and development partners to build meaningful partnerships and support investment readiness and long-term economic development.
These pillars reflect the evolution of a philosophy that began in public service and has grown through practical engagement across sectors and borders.
International tourism exhibitions, business-to-business meetings, institutional forums, and cross-border dialogue have become important platforms for building relationships and understanding emerging development priorities.
For GapEdu, however, international engagement is not measured solely by the number of meetings, countries, or organisations involved. Its value lies in the opportunities, capabilities, and partnerships that continue developing beyond the initial encounter.
Filling the Gaps: More Than a Company Name
The name GapEdu expresses the purpose behind the organisation.
Throughout its development, one recurring challenge has remained evident: the distance between ambition and implementation.
A strategy may be well designed but difficult to execute.
A destination may possess significant potential but lack the capabilities required to compete internationally.
An investment opportunity may be attractive but not sufficiently prepared for investors.
A partnership may begin with shared interests but require structure, trust, and sustained coordination to produce results.
These are the gaps GapEdu seeks to address.
Our approach is grounded in the belief that successful development requires the alignment of three essential dimensions:
Mindset — Skillset — Heartset.
Mindset shapes how we understand challenges and opportunities.
Skillset provides the professional capabilities required to design and implement solutions.
Heartset reflects the integrity, responsibility, empathy, and long-term commitment needed to create value beyond immediate commercial outcomes.
Together, these principles guide GapEdu’s approach to consultancy, partnerships, and development practice.
From Sustainable Development to the Sustainability of Development
As GapEdu continues to evolve, its philosophy has increasingly focused on a fundamental question:
How can development continue creating value after the initial project, investment, or intervention has ended?
This question is central to GapEdu’s Sustainability of Development Framework (SDF).
For GapEdu, sustainable development is not only about ensuring that growth respects environmental, social, and economic priorities.
It is also about building the institutions, capabilities, partnerships, and implementation systems that allow positive outcomes to endure.
A successful development initiative should leave behind more than a completed project.
It should strengthen the ability of people, organisations, and communities to continue progressing independently.
This commitment to lasting value connects GapEdu’s earliest experiences in community-based development with its present international consultancy work.
One Journey, Many Contributions
GapEdu’s story has never been shaped by one individual or institution alone.
It reflects the contributions of colleagues, communities, government officials, business leaders, educators, development practitioners, and international partners encountered throughout the journey.
Each collaboration has brought new perspectives, challenges, and opportunities to learn.
We recognise that no organisation can address every development challenge independently.
Meaningful progress requires trust, complementary expertise, shared responsibility, and a willingness to work across institutional and geographical boundaries.
These relationships remain among GapEdu’s most valuable foundations.
Looking Ahead: Remaining Purposeful in a Changing World
The global development environment continues to evolve.
Economic uncertainty, technological transformation, changing market dynamics, climate pressures, and growing demands for institutional accountability are reshaping the way governments and businesses plan for the future.
In this environment, the gap between policy and practice can become increasingly complex.
GapEdu’s ambition is to continue working where those gaps exist — connecting knowledge with capability, opportunities with markets, investment with readiness, and strategic vision with implementation.
We do not define success solely by organisational size, geographical reach, or the number of partnerships established.
We believe that the more meaningful measure is the value created through our work and the ability of our partners and clients to achieve lasting progress.

A Birthday Wish | Jyrki Nilson
CEO & Co-Founder, GapEdu
26 Years of Spirit. 9 Years of Identity. One Global Purpose.
A birthday wish to GapEdu on 3 November 2026 — celebrating 26 years since the professional journey that inspired GapEdu began in Vietnam.
Anniversaries are an opportunity to celebrate the past, but also to reflect on what we are building for the future. For me, the most exciting part of GapEdu’s story is the momentum of its new international chapter.
Since establishing our base in Finland in 2025, we have been strengthening GapEdu’s positioning as a strategic growth partner for public and private sector organisations. Our focus is practical: connecting strategy with implementation, helping businesses and destinations access new markets, and turning introductions into meaningful partnerships.
Over the past two years, international tourism exhibitions, B2B discussions and industry engagement have brought valuable perspectives and new relationships. They have also confirmed that sustainable growth depends on trust, consistency and the willingness to work alongside partners beyond the first meeting.
A birthday wish for GapEdu: that we continue to be curious, courageous and collaborative — and that every new partnership leaves something of lasting value behind.
To Hanni, thank you for founding GapEdu and for the vision that began this journey. To everyone who has supported us, exchanged ideas with us or opened a door along the way, thank you.
From our Vietnamese beginnings to our Finnish chapter, we have much to look forward to. Happy GapEdu Day 2026!
From Strategy to Sustainable Growth.
With appreciation and optimism,
Jyrki Nilson

A Founder’s Message | Hanni Tran
Founder, GapEdu
26 Years of Spirit. 9 Years of Identity. One Global Purpose.
On 3 November 2026, as we celebrate 26 years since the beginnings of the philosophy behind GapEdu and nine years since its formal registration in Vietnam, I find myself reflecting on the people, experiences and opportunities that have shaped our journey.
For me, GapEdu has always represented more than a business. It is a belief that knowledge, cooperation and meaningful relationships can create opportunities and contribute to lasting development.
The spirit behind GapEdu began on 1 January 2000, when I started my professional journey in tourism administration in my hometown in Vietnam. Over the years, that spirit grew through practical work across the public and private sectors before taking its formal identity as GapEdu in 2017.
The past two years have been especially important in shaping our next chapter. Since 2025, GapEdu has been based in Finland, strengthening our international outlook while remaining proud of our Vietnamese roots.
We have continued developing our work in tourism and destination development, international market access, strategic partnerships, operational capabilities and sustainable growth. Our engagement in international tourism exhibitions, forums and business discussions has reinforced the importance of listening, learning and building trusted relationships across borders.
What matters most to me is not only what we accomplish today, but the capabilities, partnerships and opportunities that continue to create value tomorrow.
Our story began in Vietnam. Our new chapter is being written in Finland. But our ambition has no borders.
I am deeply grateful to everyone who has supported GapEdu over the years, and to those who are helping us shape its future. Thank you for your trust, friendship and shared commitment to meaningful progress.
Happy GapEdu Day 2026. May the years ahead bring more bridges between people, places and possibilities.
With gratitude and warm wishes,
Hanni Tran
Founder, GapEdu
GapEdu Day 2026 | Honouring the Past, Building What Comes Next
On 3 November 2026, we celebrate:
26 years since the beginning of the professional spirit that shaped GapEdu.
9 years since the company’s official registration in Vietnam.
One shared international journey strengthened by the complementary vision and expertise of its founders.
And one enduring purpose: Filling the Gaps.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the people, communities, institutions, clients, and partners who have contributed to this journey.
Our roots remind us where our purpose began.
Our experience reminds us why practical implementation matters.
And our future challenges us to keep learning, connecting, and creating meaningful value.
Because development is not complete when a vision is written. Its real value begins when that vision becomes practice.
Happy GapEdu Day 2026.
